"Fallenstar!" I yowled picking up the tiny fragile bundle of fur in my mout before I entered camp.
The ShadowClan cats turned to look at me confused. Shadetwin and Clovertwin stoped there sharing tongues and turned to look at me there eyes wide with curiousity and disbelief. I placed the bundle on my paws gently before yowling my leaders name again and picking it up and trotting quickly outside her den. My heart pounded wildly in my chest as I battled for breath and control, I couldn't let it go. The serpent garnet eyes of my leader sparkled at me from the dark of her den. She pulled herself out the prey bones of the enterance of her den began to tumble around her. My blood ran cold and I began to think it was wrong to bring the kit here... I should I left her where I found her or send her to another clan... it would have been best but I couldn't run away now the serpent eyes were on the mewling kit.
"What is it Fadedheart..." she growled her eyes cloudy with an unknown pain. She was still so young... what could worry her? Oh... my mind left that train of thought and I set the kit gently infront of her. I was hesitate to leave her side... I didn't want to leave the small hungry snowy white kit. I began to inch away... away... but I was being tugged so strongly back to it. I made it only a few mouse tails away from her and watched my leader. Normally I would not have asked her permission to speak and just spoke and go roll on the mushy grass with the twins but this was grave.
Fallenstar eyed the mewling kit warily at first as if it were some infectious rat but then she relaxed.
"Where did you find the kit?" she asked oddly calm. She went forward and began to sniff it gingerly and set a few licks on the tiny snowy head.
I gave out a heavy breath I didn't know I had been holding and answered. Maybe if she was interested Fallenstar would do nothing to her and keep her, right?
"Down by Thunderpath" I mewed. " I was hunting for-". I stoped speaking watching as she paused her sniffing and her bloody eyes began to boil with rage. She was so close to the kit, I prayed to StarClan or ANYTHING! that she would do nothing to her. What was wrong with me?... I had never cared for kits...
"ThunderPATH... ThunderCLAN" she hissed. I almost shot towards the kit and took her away and away with me... but I wasn't a mother or a she-cat even... I began to try to reason with her my green blue eyes wide and full of anxiety. After all hope seemed lost to the poor kit the medicine came and interfered, Fallenstar changed her mind after that. She had her tail warped around the tiny she-kit.
"Is there any nurseing queens?" she asked her voice soft to her clan.
The other clan cats were speechless and only stared, not even the most sharptongued dared to interfer here... she had the most unstable mind... and her anger to direct to anyone...
"There isn't Fallenstar" a she-cat managed to mew. "My kits left two moons ago to become appentices".
I could feel my heart start alcelerating again... no...
"Fine..." Fallenstar growled, she looked no more than annoyed by that fact but that was all. "Fadedheart!"
My head rose and my eyes leveled to meet hers.
"Go! Go to ThunderClan and tell them that this kit's mother has died and she needs milk to live!", she mewed. "We will bring her back when she is old enough..."
"But Fallenstar!" Bearfang yowled from in back." That is weakness!"
"Weakness is to let a kit die!" she snarled her pelt fluffing till she was twice her size, she lashed her tail angerly. She was furious her eyes seemed to burn the tom. Bearfang nodded and stepped back, dazed by the moment but was sure to start again when the fear had passed.
I was sure that she didn't really think about the warrior code or did even care if any kit died but I was glad she was now and for this one...
"Now GO! Before I change my mind...", she moved away and pushed the kit roughly with her muzzle towards me before going back to the darkness of her den.
I quickly got her and raced away out of camp a few cold glares behind my back.
"Fadedheart!" one of the twins yowled.
I looked back at him hoping he did see I didn't want him to come. Shadetwin or Clovertwin backed away and to his brother with a single understanding nod. Shadetwin.
I raced into the marshes as quickly as my legs could carry me. For once I wished I was a WindClan cat and not RiverClan like in my dreams... I could get there much quicker. Time was running out and I could feel it would soon be cut short. The little kit had stoped her mewling...
